Commodities and Services

The AUPN Executive Committee, in consultation with the higher education sector, determined a selection of commodities and services to be benchmarked over the three year project, reviewed in each phase of the Programme.

The first three started in February 2007 and were completed in June/July 2007. The final sub-project for Phase 1 - Travel, started at the end of July, followed by the Phase 2 categories - Multifunction Devices, Transaction Banking, Telecommunications and PCs & Laptops. Phase 3 began in the latter part of 2008 and comprised of Printing, Advertising, IT Leasing and Professional Services - all very high value categories and mostly outside the Procurement domain.

Workshops have been held to review the outcomes from each of the categories. These were not only intended to provide participating universities with an opportunity to develop strategies for attaining best practice for their university but also to develop potential benefits, savings and future direction for the sector through collaboration and sharing.
